Privacy notice

Who we are

As the author, site manager and data controller of the Noted blog, John Helmer, it is important to me and all who work with me that visitors to this web site can have trust and confidence that their data will not be abused. In particular, we want you to know that we are not in the business of selling, renting or trading email lists with other companies and businesses for marketing purposes. In this Privacy Policy, we’ve provided detailed information on when and why we collect personal information, how we use it, the limited conditions under which we might disclose it to others and how we keep it secure.

Types of data we collect

Website Cookies

Our website uses cookies to collect information. This includes information about browsing behaviour by people who access our website.  This includes information about pages viewed, products purchased and the customer journey around our websites. In addition, we use a WordPress plugin called Jetpack provided by Automaticc that collects cookie information in order to implement certain plug-ins, of which this website uses a minimal set. More detailed information about cookie use is set out in Automaticc’s Cookie Policy here.

Google Analytics

We use a third party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website.

Mailing Lists

As part of the registration process for subscribing to this blog, we collect personal information. We use that information principally to let you know by email when new content has been posted, to check our records are right and to check every now and then that you’re happy and satisfied, and also to send you information about new developments on the blog. We don’t rent or trade email lists with other organisations and businesses.

We use a third-party provider, MailChimp, to deliver our alerts and emails. We gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our service. For more information, please see MailChimp’s privacy notice. You can unsubscribe to general mailings at any time of the day or night by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails or by emailing us at j.helmer@ntlworld.com.

Third Parties

We will not share sensitive information with any third parties other than the technology partners listed elsewhere in this notice. We share such information only for delivery of the website and for providing you with alerts and news.

Access to your personal information

You are entitled to view, amend, or delete the personal information that we hold. Email your request to our data protection officer John Helmer at j.helmer@ntlworld.com.

Changes to this Privacy Notice

We will review this policy regularly, and where necessary, update our privacy information. We will bring any new uses of your personal data to your attention before we start any processing that makes use of it.
